The clothes swap is without a doubt a wonderful thing but do you really know why? The following two articles produced during the 6th class English exam will help you to understand why you really should be joining in.

Start Swapping, Stop Wasting!

In the SRG Maria Enzersdorf a big clothes swap will take place.

How often do you buy new clothes? Instead of buying new clothes, swap them with your school mates. It’ll make you, your friends and the environment happy!

At our school, many people buy new clothes frequently. For young adults it is important how they look. Many have to have the new Jordans or the newest sweater to feel confident enough to come to school. This is, of course, a problem when it comes to the money part. Most of the trendy clothing costs way too much and in times like these, other things are more important than what you wear.

Unfortunately, it does not only have a negative effect on money, but also on the environment. The reason being that for the production of most of the clothing, many toxic chemicals are being produced and finally emitted into the air or water. This is because countries like China or Bangladesh either do not care or do not have enough money to prevent these chemicals from getting into our environment. But that is just one of the many factors which contributes to the pollution during the production of our new clothes. The transport, for example, also plays a big role as well. The clothing has to be transported from foreign countries, which are far away, via boats, planes or transporters and, of course, they emit gasses as well, which is not great. So to prevent that or at least help reduce these effects, our school, SRG Maria Enzersdorf has decided to organise a clothes swapping event.

At this event, students’ clothes are to be swapped with each other. Through this, no additional gasses or chemicals get produced which helps our environment a lot. And since it is free to swap clothes, you will not even have to spend a dime, which is good for parents who do not know to pay their bills. And the best part of all is: it will be fun!

So in conclusion, this is to the benefit of every single student at this school. There are no downsides, which speaks for itself. Make sure to give the event a visit, it will be in the library on Friday 13th January from the 4th lesson onwards.

 An Incredible Idea

You dislike going shopping or you do not have enough money to buy cool new clothes? Then the clothes swap is the perfect opportunity for you to refill your closet with the used but still trendy clothes from your school colleagues. I am going to describe the current shopping trends at our school, the negative effects for our environment, if we always buy new clothes and the advantages of the clothes swap for us students and maybe even our parents.

In our school there are many students who play sport very intensively so everyone wears rather comfortable clothes like sweatpants and pullovers but there are still some people who wear designer clothes or at least clothes form brands which are very popular at the moment.

But all of this shopping has huge negative effects on our environment. There are many brands which produce their products in countries far away from the destinations and shops where those goods are then stored and eventually sold. So, they have to be transported all over the world just so that we can buy them in a shop nearby or purchase them online.

The benefits of the clothes swap are for example that you do not have to go by bus and maybe even train to a shopping centre to be able to purchase some extraordinary clothes. You can simply go the library and have a look through the great amounts of clothes you can choose from after you have donated a few of your own. Additionally, you do not have to buy new clothes which reduces the impact of clothes purchasing on the environment.
